My buddy bought a Ford MotorSport Stage something or other for his 78 Stepside with 351 W. when he opened the box, the first thing I noticed was Made by LUK.... He wasnt impressed with me chortling over this. Prolly could have saved 150.00 had he just bought a LUK in the first place.

Whoom bam zoom. That baby went in mighty quick. On my own vehicles I used an orbital sander to break the glaze on the flywheel before putting the clutch and pressure plate back on and never had a problem. Nice and smooth. Sucks Ford decided to put the slave cylinder inside. The clutch worked fine till the hydraulic pressure went away with a leak inside the transmission. Was forced to trash a clutch that worked fine.

Replaced the trans on my 06 stang (banging 2nd didnt make for a good time). and I tell ya its not a bad job but doing it with the worlds shortest jackstands from walmart, rolling around in gravel at 3am in the morning isnt much fun. The simplicity of rwd is nice. Something funny is that my 06 doesnt have that brace going across under the bellhousing. And yea haha no bleeder. Get in and just start pumping lol after a couple hundred pumps you wont have any more air lol later slaves on these had bleeders tho.

The more I watch these vids on various repairs on late model vehicles, the more I understand why they cost so bloody much when you take them in for repairs. Crazy complicated. And, some dude somewhere once said, "the more complex a system, the more catastrophic the failure." Yep. And the more costly the repairs.

Eric: In my wrenching days, we'd just just cut off the heads of spare bolts laying around or get some from the parts shop to act as guides when installing transmissions/transaxles (same thread and pitch size of course).........transmission/transaxle went in every time on the 1st try and never putting any load on the pilot bearing or bronze bushing....preventing any possible damage to the input shaft or pilot bearing/bronze bushing. We used the same technique of using pilot bolts for slushboxes and especially trucks with the transfer case still attached to the transmission. We would simply pie-cut the "pilot" bolts so,after running a few bolts through until almost bottomed-out...simply use a screw driver to remove the "pilot" bolts we used to make sure the transmission/transaxle went in perfect the first time.....occasionally we would use channel locks (two of guys at the same time) for those transmissions/transaxles that were a little snug going in the last 1/8 of inch or sobefore being flush with the block and lower stiffening casting, etc. On vehicles with starters still connected to the engine or additional stiffener casting....we would start-up the engine...bust out the Roloc...........redneck surface and remove the glaze off the flywheel....saved the customer a little money to.

The shifter on my daughter’s 2014 Ford Focus w/AutoTransmission wouldn’t shift to the low gear. It could go from Park to Neutral to Drive, but not into low. Took it to the dealership (it was still under warranty). I explained the symptoms to the tech advisor and my daughter and I went to the waiting room. There had been bulletins issued on the Ford Focus transmission, so we knew it wouldn’t cost us much, if any at all. Well, after 15 minutes or less, the advisor came to see us with his hand hidden behind his back and a smile on his face. After a few seconds, he showed us his closed fist, then opened it to expose a large walnut. Seems my daughter, who parks her car at college near an oak tree, had a squirrel (yep, a cousin to Rocky) hide his winter walnuts up under the car and put them behind the car’s shifter which is covered inside with leather. Unfortunately, he said he’d have to charge us $80 to cover the tech’s inspection and time. But, thought I’d share that story with you. I’m sure you’ve got similar creature stories! Cheers from outside Lexington, KY

I have an 05 Mustang 4.0L 5spd and had the input shaft bearing disintegrate. I had a moment where the same thing happened, couldn't get it into first, forced it, heard it blow and then it worked again! Lol. Had to get in and tear the whole thing down. And I know what you mean about no bleeder screw. I put in an aftermarket unit and it had a bleeder. One thing I absolutely hate about the slave cylinder vs a cable actuated clutch is that you used to be able to pull the trans just by pulling the shaft, the linkage, pull the wires, then 4 bolts to pull the trans from the bellhousing. With the hydraulic clutch, you have to pull the entire bell housing and work it out (which is a tight fit).

One of my theory says to the problem may have been when I jacked the front end up for like two days (no lift) because one of the starter bolts was a complete bitch to work on and get back in the hole and maybe I created some type of chassis flex or dislocated the bell housing a little or something? I've yet to check the bolts and stuff just a theory that I have?

Vor 6 Monate

Is there wear on the end of the starter where the flywheel might be contacting when you put your foot on the clutch, the end float of the crank isn’t usually too much but if the starter is that excessively tight between the end of it and the flywheel it might be caused by that.
