Very good videos, I wanted to buy a auction vehicle and rebuild it but had the worries of running into problems like you did with this build, and I don't have access to a shop either just my home garage. And of course it would be for my personal use. But your videos have inspired me to look at this option again. Thanks for sharing your hard work... It's appreciated!!

I know you guys give me a lot of slack since the videos could be filmed and edited much better. So in turn I provide you with what I am good at, sharing my experiences of rebuilding cars for free. My father in law owns a body shop and had to do a cab / bed swap on a Ram- it rolled like the Silverado, but was only a week old. Unfortunately it was not totaled, and was a $25,000 job. The shop I rent just did a $23k job on an F250 and it was a 2013. Vehicles are so ridiculously expensive these days that you can end up fixing some bad wrecks as long as the airbags don't deploy. Those damn airbags are just there to increase the cost of every repair and sell new cars, I swear! I have done quite a few cab, frame and body swaps so they get much easier with practice. I'll keep making if you keep watching them! Thanks for the support!

That's awesome that you did the details on disconnecting the cab. I saw a video where they were replacing the engine on an F150 and they removed the cab. I'd heard of this before but no one had a video of everything that needed to be disconnected in order to do it. I was thinking you needed to discon the brake lines from the master cylinder but I guess you can leave them be and just remove the master cylinder from the booster and pedal linkage. So if I get this straight: Master cyinder Trans shifter linkage ECM wiring A/C and heater hose Throttle linkage What am I missing? I guess there'd be more if you left the fenders attached. You've actually inspired me. I have an 04 F150 that I had the timing chain etc done a year ago. Had a misfire last week and the BS parts the shop put in, one of the tensioners broke. Meaning $2000 to fix. I'm going to go back to the shop that did it and get them to fix it under warranty (it shouldn't break with a simple misfire at startup). If not, I have my eyes on couple of copart wrecked trucks with 100,000 less km on the engines. One is a fully decked out Fx4 with leather interior etc. If I can get it for a reasonable price, maybe I'll make a video like yours of me doing the swaps? Someone will ask: why all this for a simple timing job? Costs the same to do the timing chain as a whole other truck.......There's actually ones around for LESS (like $1000 for the whole truck) but they have the same kms and even if the engine is running good now, it isn't worth it. I want to get ahead not behind.

Vor 3 Tage
vehcor

+Muskoka Mike NO THANKS! All I want to worry about is a sunburn while working. Everyone in the world uses the metric system but not us stubborn Muricans. lol

Vor Tag
Muskoka Mike
Muskoka Mike

+vehcor haha celsius, we use the metric system (mostly) up here in the great white north. I found a U pull your parts yard a couple hours away that charges $300 for a long block. Great if it's mild out but at -28? nooo thank you! I actually worked construction for a couple of years up here and we were working outside on one house......read -45 C on the dash thermometer.......I actually learned to love -5 to -10 C. That way stuff stayed frozen so your gloves stayed dry and you could work in a sweater. 0 to +2 was miserable because the snow would melt, and you'd get soaked and freeze.

Vor Tag
vehcor
vehcor

-28C?? What is that in freedom units??? Ah, who cares, it is damn cold on any scale. lol I never minded the cold but as I get older, it really is making a move to the south a lot more appealing! I know what you mean about working on the daily driver. I put mine off to work on these projects all the time. Sometimes I have to switch cars until I have time to work on one if it is due for an oil change or something. Part of the reason I like making videos is it gives me a reason to sit in the house and stay warm and still feel like I am accomplishing something. Stay warm up there!

Vor Tag
Muskoka Mike
Muskoka Mike

damn, just checked the forcast for this weekend.....-28 C brrrr lol

Vor Tag
Muskoka Mike
Muskoka Mike

+vehcor thanks man, I appreciate the pointers. I'll let you know. I probably won't buy from copart up here because literally, the fees they charge and the fact that I have to use a broker pretty much increases the price of the item by 51%. Whereas another auction place up here charges 12% plus a $80 title transfer fee and that is it. One went through this weekend that was rough looking, dents and scrapes everywhere and rust here and there and went for $1600 with only 161K kms on it. A little more n half what my current truck has. If I wasn't doing all this for my daily driver, I probably would have done it by now but holding up my main vehicle and trying to earn a living while I do it, it's rough. Plus I don't have an indoors place to leave both and it's cold AF out these days (-18 C). But hey, i'm learning a lot! Keep up the good work!

When you put the speedometer cluster in, could you put the one in with the least miles showing on the odometer or would the ECM know they aren't matched up with the original truck? I'm not asking a moral question, I'm just curious if it would work with either one?

If I were to try and change it, nothing would work. The vins are stored in the cluster. The cluster mileage will light up for a second and that is it. A bunch of codes and sometimes certain cars won't even start. I could have it reprogrammed with the correct vin.

Vor 3 Tage
vehcor

The removing welds will be the next tutorial after this truck is finished. I will show a couple different methods and why some are better than others and why and where. I'm using all the modules from the original truck so no programming SHOULD be required. Unless, I don't know, one of those modules happens to be no good. Thanks for watching.

When I watch you removing parts, cabs, etc. And then assembling all of them back on. All I can thing of is how many thousands of people had to put it all together on an assembly line!!!! A friend of mine worked on that assembly line, (retired now). All he had to do was put the front seatbelts in the truck, handing on the drivers seatbelt to the other guy and then putting a few bolts on his side that hold the center console. He had just a little over two and a half minutes. We built Scouts where I worked, ( I mentoned that before), but it was much easier assembling the Scout then what is involved in the new vehicles that are built. I also have to chuckle when you comment on some of the things that had to be redone once in awhile. Blows my mind when I see, most of the time you are doing a whole assembly line wortth of work! Much of the time all alone. Keep up the the good work, I enjoy it very much.

My lord. I'd love to see the paperwork required to get this inspected - redacted of course. But wow, this is crazy.

vehcor One Piece at a Time comes to mind for the title on that one hahahaha

Vor Tag

It is actually the same as any other. I will show all that in a tutorial. This one isn't bad, lots of lines to fill out but most of the parts came from one place. I have had builds that came from 10 different sources and the titles or receipts are required on all of the parts. That was a mess to keep straight. lol

Turning out great!!! Why did you not use the padded dash off the parts truck? And encase I missed it - the frame is going to be used off the parts truck?

Vor 4 Tage

Yep, so far so good. The interior in the parts truck is tan and yes, that is where my frame is coming from. Thanks for watching!

I am looking forward to seeing how you keep the bolts straight in something like the dash. Body and engine bolts are no problem but making sure all the bolts go back into the dash...that is impressive.

Vor 4 Tage

Thanks, some of the interior went in in this part, some in the last part and some in the next part so you may not have missed anything. I am doing these in the order I filmed them. I did consider just doing the entire interior install as one video but it might have gotten confusing as why it was on the truck in the video when I haven't put it one the truck in the video. lol Thanks for watching.

Scott you are doing an excellent job on this rebuild! Even though it will be an amalgamation of parts when done it will not be a Frankenstein truck! You will have it looking like a million bucks! Your hard work is turning a disaster into a success story! Well done!

Thank you for the confidence and support! I was hoping people would realize the moral to this story is, don't just give up and take the easy way out. Even I considered the easy way at one point but after getting into this build, it is turning out better than I could have imagined. Thanks for watching.

Vor 4 Tage

I like the bolt on fenders. I like bolt on everything. I hate the Ford fenders that are glued on. I can deal with the welded inner structure but why the glue? lol And Dodge kind of has the whole welded inner structure with parts of it that unbolt. GM's method is still the old fashioned way.

Scott, a man (or woman) knows that they are a gearhead when they spend countless hours watching a master mechanic (technician) do a major repair and restoration such as yours. I find your work to be relaxing and enjoyable, even though I will never attempt anything like what you are doing. Of course, I have been a car guy and gearhead since the early '60s. So, yeah, I'm very old at his point. Btw, you and I have the same dry sense of humor. Cracks me up. Thank you!

Thanks for the support. I do enjoy the work and glad others can enjoy it with me. Thanks for watching.

Scott, I am curios why you opt to use the motor out of the wrecked "mistake" truck, and not the known good motor that is already in the frame you are using from the parts truck?

Vor 4 Tage
vehcor
vehcor

I can sell the unknown running motor as a core for $1000. I can spend some time and money to see if it is good. If it is, I can sell the parts truck motor for $7k-10k. If I lose, I'm out the $200 in parts and 6-10 hours to swap the good engine back in. tommy harrell is correct.  Thanks for watching.

Vor Tag

If the mistake engine is good, he has a known good engine from the parts truck to sell. If he used the parts engine in, he can't sell the mistake engine as a known good engine

I'm still trying to figure that out too. Why "gamble" if the one you are removing runs fine.

Not using the LTZ dash pad with the leather wrap?

Vor 4 Tage
vehcor
vehcor

It is the same leather/plastic crap, just without the silver stitching. Since this pad came with the cab, I am not going to, "look a gift horse in the mouth" as they say. If I had to buy one, I would have gotten the correct one but most people will never notice and I personally don't care. I actually purposely put the wrong one in my Terrain Denali since I didn't care for the red stitching. Thanks for watching.
